Trust has always been at the heart of public relations. What’s changed is how quickly that trust can be built—or broken.
Consumers, employees, and stakeholders are constantly browsing social media feeds, online reviews, news stories, and company content. In a matter of seconds, opinions about brands are formed based on what they see and how those brands show up.
Effective PR can no longer operate in a silo and must be closely integrated with social media, content marketing, and digital communications to create a consistent, authentic brand experience.
When a company earns media coverage, that story should be amplified through social channels. When a thought leadership article is published, it should support wider messaging goals. When customer feedback surfaces online, communications teams should be prepared to interact thoughtfully and transparently.
The brands that build lasting trust are those that communicate consistently across every touchpoint. They deliver valuable content, respond to concerns, recognize victories, and remain visible during challenges and opportunities.
During a recent continuing education session for my Accreditation in Public Relations (APR), a presenter shared a simple but powerful reminder: Silence communicates.
Every post, article, interview, and interaction contributes to the story people believe about your brand. And as I was reminded recently through my APR continuing education, silence communicates, too.
Kathy Broniecki, APR
That observation stayed with me because it’s more relevant today than ever. In a world where stakeholders can access information instantly, choosing not to communicate sends a message just as clearly as a press release, social media post, or media interview. Audiences notice what organizations say, but they also notice what they don’t say.
Whether responding to customer feedback, addressing a challenge, celebrating a milestone, or navigating a crisis, thoughtful communication helps build trust. Silence leaves room for others to define the narrative.
At Envoy, we view public relations as more than media relations. It’s about helping organizations create connections, strengthen their reputation, and earn trust over time. In a scroll-first world, every post, article, interview, and interaction contributes to the story people believe about your brand.
