Kyle Theobald

Senior Video Editor & Motion Designer

Kyle is a lifelong creative born into a family of artists and farmers. His passion for animation began at a young age, playing with his mother’s design software when the family computer was free. Back then, After Effects was still finding its place in the industry and Macromedia Flash was figuring out if that’s the name it would settle on (it was not).

Through his love of motion, he treks the storyboard one frame to the next – guiding ideas from a handful of sketches into full and engaging animations. Immersed in the making of educational and nature documentaries, his career in editing naturally evolved alongside animation. And now the two skills exist in a space of healthy, and often overlapping, competition.

Outside the office, his life is built on a love of crafting, plants, and art in all its forms.

When I was 5, I was pretty sure I’d be a stone mason when I grew up. I believed this was the natural next step after putting together my first rock collection, and perhaps that still holds true.

What’s the most inspiring part of your job? No matter its format, style, or complexity – my line of work always asks for a story.

Do you have any skills or talents that most people don’t know about? I have 4 unicycles, which is sort of like having two bikes! Also, I can ride them.

Who is someone you admire, and why? Jean Giraud, also known as Mœbius. His work is creative in a way that feels contagious and it laid the groundwork for countless others to explore their own worlds and ideas.

What are you happiest doing, when you’re not working? Checking in on each of my several hundred plants. Not a millimeter is grown without me knowing about it.

The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is that boundaries and limitations often work in favor of creativity, not against it.
