This week, I offer my final quick tips for designing a Web site. If you haven’t already, you can check out Part I and Part II of this series.
Clean Navigation Is Best
The fourth part of designing your website is to consider navigation. Your navigation should be clean. It should say tell users in one to at most three words where they are going when they click through. And don’t worry about how many clicks it takes users to get to where they need to be. As long as you illustrate in the design and copy clearly, users will get there.
Shoot to Inform, Not Wow
Finally, wowing your users isn’t what you need; you need a successful click-through rate, a site that is easy to navigate and doesn’t overwhelm the user. So, remember, when you are building or rebuilding that site:
• Don’t get lost in the messaging.
• Don’t over-clutter the pages with content.
• Keep the design clean, to the point and simple.
